On the Menu: Sweeper and Funnel
Menu has served up a brilliant little design with this brush and dustpan combo. It can be hard to take a ubiquitous product like the simple dustpan and find ways to improve upon its form and functionality – but the design team at Menu has done just that. The general design of this dustpan remains largely familiar until one notices the entirely hollow handle which now acts as a funnel. No longer will you struggle while trying to slide all of the gathered waste into the trash; simply turn the dustpan upside-down let the debris drain through the funnel. The handle of the brush has also been carefully tapered, allowing it to gently nestle within the funnel and be used to hang the set together on a hook. Available in both white and black, the warm figure of the wood offers a sophisticated contrast that wouldn’t look out of place in the contemporary home.
The dustpan is made from a Polypropylene plastic, the brush handle is cut from solid Ash hardwood, and the brush bristles are made from Pylerma Fiber, materials known for their longevity. Capping the duo off, there is a refined leather loop tied to the end of the brush. With the given materials, this set delivers on the fabrication quality and the inherent value.
Retailing at $59.95 this brush and dustpan set is significantly higher than your typical set being offered on the market. The jump in price is not a surprise considering the materials used, but it would be nice to see the pair drop lower than $40.00, making it feel like less of a significant investment.
